Binky Fairy?

Wendy is 17 months old today, and I need your advice. Her pediatrician told us back at her one-year visit that it would be best if she is weaned off of the Binky by 18 months. By 18 months. At the time, it seemed like we had a long time to figure it out. But now? It's, um, NOW.

Wendy didn't even take a Binky until she was about seven months old. It quickly became indispensible. We can do without it during the day, but when it comes time for a nap or bedtime, the girl wants her Binky.

Have any of you successfully weaned from a pacifier? Do you have any suggestions? Anything at all? Please?

I've heard about giving the Binky to the "Binky Fairy," but Wendy just isn't at that stage yet -she wouldn't understand. I just don't know what steps to take, other than going cold turkey.

Any ideas? Please share...

Lynn Pendleton broke Chasity by cutting the tops off of all of her binky's. She followed her around one day and found all of her hiding spots, cut the tops and stuck them back in Chas's hiding spots. It broke her of it.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I have been told by so many moms that if you cut the tips off and then cut a bit more and a bit more, they eventually give it up. I think that is what we'll try. Preston wants his 24/7! He even will eat with it. He pulls the paci out, puts a bite of food in and then puts the paci back in his mouth. (sigh) It breaks my heart to take it away, but I got a little more time than you.

both my babies had paci's,(I actually made them have it.) Cyprus had his till he was about 2&1/2, I thought it was going to awful getting him off, but it actually only took him 10 more minutes to fall asleep that first night. Also, make sure you hide them well, so she doesn't happen to see them, then you have to start all over. I was amazed at how well he did(Jaylee was about a year at that time and she had one), I would try cold turkey and if she throws a fit, just try to comfort her some other way. Basically she has to figure out a different way to pacify herself.
Jaylee will be 2 in 2 weeks and she still has the paci, I'm going to work on it after her birthday.

We clipped Caden's, and he kept giving it back to us saying "bwoke" but after a couple of nights he just handed it to us and didn't want it anymore...we haven't done the deed with Chase yet...

Funny but we are in the same delima with the boys. I have always told myself at one year it's going. But when the year creaped up on us it just seemed to soon. But I figure better now than ever. So far on day two they are doing great during the day but we haven't started it at night. I've heard from others to dip it in vinigar, it will give it such a sour taste they won't want it. I think if the time comes it will be what I try. Good luck, keep us posted.
