Chicken Problems

I wrote a few days ago about switching Wendy to a toddler bed. The first day was rough, but we've been doing pretty well since then.

However, a problem has developed. She wakes up at the crack of dawn. By crack of dawn, I mean 5 a.m. She then gets up and starts playing, or asks to come out of her room. I love my little Chicken, but I really don't want to see her before 7 a.m. (I hope that doesn't sound too selfish.)

Today I'm planning to take all the toys & books out of her room, to make getting up seem less appealing. I'm also seriously considering investing in light-blocking window coverings for her room.

Have any of you had this problem? What did you do to cope with it?

We haven't had that problem, but Piper does have light-blocking shades in her room. You might also try to put a clock in her room, marked with the time she's allowed to leave her room.

We did have that problem and we established the rule that they were allowed to stay in their room and play, but not come out until mommy or daddy told them they could or came and got them. We made a big deal out of how being able to stay in their room and play BY THEMSELVES was an honor and responsibility...

Usually, we would be awakened by chatter, laughing, etc., and lie in our own bed listening and enjoying the chatter.

We have had some of that -- right now the boys wake up around 5:45 -- we haven't really stopped it yet because Dave has to get up at 6 to be at work by 7, and I am usually up at that point nursing.

With Caden as a toddler, we put up a gate at the door and let him play in the mornings when he got up. One thing you could do would be to go back to her room and say that it's still sleeping time, put her back in bed, and keep doing that until she gets the picture -- and setting up a time that she can get up or else setting a rule that you come and get her should work, too. Of course, this will be a lot of work on the front end.

We have a chicken too, but we're co-sleeping so when she wakes up, we have to wake up too. I'm an early riser too, but 5 am is a little ridiculous! It's not always that early, but the last 2 days it has been! So I guess I'll be taking a nap today too!
