WFMW: Not Answering

There was a time I just couldn't stand to let the phone ring without answering it. That time has passed.

It came about a few years ago, when everyone I actually wanted to talk to would call my cell phone. The only people who ever called our home phone were telemarketers or survey-takers. I just stopped answering the home phone. If it was an important call, it would show up on voicemail, and we'd take care of it - but that seldom happened.

Now, my very smart Hubby has our phone set so that our home phone rings both of our cell phones, too. That means that I can take advantage of the built-in caller ID on the cell phone to see if it's a call I should answer. Strange area code? Talk to the voice mail. Call from Hubby's work? Let him answer. Mom calling for the 3rd time? Call her back later.

It has simplified my life a LOT! No more dashing for a ringing phone - no more interrupting storytime or dinner just because the phone rings. It definitely works for me.

That's a good idea. I hardly ever get phone calls, though, so I have to take advantage of the opportunity to talk to a grown-up whenever I can. :)

I'm with you on this one, I almost never answer my home line. Those who really need to reach me have my cell number.

I am so happy that I'm not the only one that does this. Right now we only have cell phones. (no real need for a home phone) And if I don't recognize the number calling, I don't answer. My dad thinks this is crazy, but I think if it's imporant, they'll leave a message.

Yes, I completely understand! I rarely answer my home phone. I just got tired of grabbing a kid off the changing table, half diapered, sprinting to the phone and having it be a marketing call!

I'm right with you! I can't remember the days before cell phone caller ID!

Hope the babywearing links were helpful - do you know what kind of carrier you want to use?

This is a great one. We don't even have a home phone anymore, and I love that I can see who's calling on my cell phone. I even have different rings programmed for people I really need to talk with. It does save time. Sometimes, you just can't drop what you're doing to take a call.

I'm with you on this! My own problem is if I'm avoiding Mom & DH's wanting to talk to my step-dad! LOL Caller Id doesn't say WHO is on the other line!
